Heart Diptych
The Series “Heart Diptych” is a series that compares the realistic heart to the imagery inside of the heart when opened. Both works in the series are made with colored pencil and blended with gamsol to make it look watercolor-esque. This series is challenging the expression of love, life, and friendship and is representing the expression of a real relationship with the complex details of an anatomical heart and the imaginary word of emotions and reactions associated with love, life, and complex relationships.
The “Heart” represents the “realistic” with a depiction of an anatomical heart, created freehand, based off of an anatomical photograph of a heart. The “Heart” captures the shapes and designs in a blue-ish grayscale palette symbolizing reality.
“Heart of the City” represents these complicated emotions and feelings that exist within love, life, and relationships. This image depicts these emotions through the many roads and directions you can take in the heart. “Heart of the CIty” is an image that would exist if you opened the “Heart” artwork up from the top and laid it out flat. All the veins and blood vessels are now roads that lead to different neighborhoods of feelings. This a theoretical and artistic perspective of what it would look like when you open up your heart and see all that's inside.
We are complicated individuals that can look alike with our anatomical hearts, but look different on the inside with feelings, emotions, and expression of personality, life, and love.
